Session 2

Authentic authorship with Blogger

One of the most powerful ways to motivate students to become stronger writers is to give them opportunities to write for an audience beyond the teacher. Blogger is a free platform that comes with Google Apps for EDU and allows students to create their own blogs or participate in a classroom blog. Teachers can control the privacy settings of classroom blogs to make sure just the right people can view and comment on blog posts. Having students blog is great, but reviewing so many individual blog posts can really slow down the assessment process for teachers. This session will cover a process to streamline the assessment by using Google Forms so teachers can see all blog assignments on one single sheet. With Blogger, students can write for an authentic audience and receive feedback that motivates high standards.
